It may seem clear that you need to seek medical care for these issues but less clear that mental health help is also necessary.
As women, we have particular experiences or life contexts that can place us at risk for mental health issues. We have babies, we have pregnancies, we have chronic female health conditions, we have miscarriages, we lose babies or children, we have monthly hormone fluctuations and menopause.
We welcome our children into our families or help them launch into adulthood. We may live with a difficult spouse or partner. We have difficult and sometimes isolating times in our lives such as being a stay-at-home mom or being the “breadwinner” of our family. We struggle with infertility or questions about how to mother our children.
Female health conditions such as Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, endometriosis/adenomyosis, PCOS, etc. can significantly increase a woman’s risk of depression, anxiety, panic attacks, or more.
It may seem clear that you need to seek medical care for these issues but less clear that mental health help is also necessary. For instance, female health issues, such as endometriosis, has a strong link to depression and anxiety. However, counseling can help.
You may struggle with making sense out of your roles or feel that you have put yourself on the back burner for so long that it’s negatively impacting your family or ability to function the way you’d like in life.
If you’re a woman and feel that you need extra help to understand yourself better or have a listening ear, we’re here to help.
